Are We the Women of Mad Men?
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
I’ve been watching the fourth season of Mad Men with a knot in my stomach. For the first three, I convinced myself that the level of blatant sexism at the Sterling Cooper (now Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce) advertising agency was as retro as three-martini lunches and girdles. But the most recent episodes have disabused me of those notions. Truth be told, when it comes to sexism we have little to brag about. …

How Feminists’ Eggs Came Home to Roost
The following op-ed by The New Agenda’s Amy Siskind is featured on the front page of The Huffington Post.
This has not been a good week for Democratic women.
First, a New York Times op-ed penned by two progressive feminists noting two disturbing trends: 1) Democratic Leaders have been bargaining away our reproductive rights, and 2) the Democratic Party is not seeking out nor encouraging strong women leaders . Then, a Los Angeles Times story descrying that hopes for the “Year of the Women” are fading. Given the projected seats losses by …

TNA in POLITICO: Boy’s Club and Warren
The New Agenda’s article in The Huffington Post, The Obama Old Boys Club — Does the White House Economic Team Have a Woman Problem? is once again making waves.
POLITICO first featured the story contents in an article speculating on why Christina Romer resigned as Council of Economic Advisors Chairwoman.
Today’s leading story at POLITICO reads: ‘Good ol’ boys’ in Warren’s way?. The New Agenda’s Amy Siskind had this to say:
“It’s a real issue, and I’m hoping that President Obama does the right thing and replaces Christina Romer with a …

Portrait Of A Child On Her Fifth Birthday
The following poem was written by Missy Egan Wey and is published in The Westchester Review, 2010: Volume 4)
Shafts of autumn sunlight
illuminate her face
matted on velvet,
in a frame brushed by gold.
Wheat-colored hair, drawn
smooth across her forehead,
encircles her ears,
brushes the nape of her slender neck.
Her gray eyes look away,
smudged sockets,
thumbprints of ash.
I remember the white smocked dress
blue stitching, drawn snug
across my chest, high collar
fastened by a pin made of pearls.
Starched puffed sleeves
hid my shoulders that day,
bruised by the boy next door;
the stench of sawdust on his hands.
Coils of insulation
muffle screams …

TNA Spoke Out: the Media’s Orchestrated Hit Job on Palin
Those of you following this blog are well aware of the sexism directed at Hillary Clinton during her presidential run. In case, you need a reminder, watch here.

Politico reporter Ben Adler, now an editor at Newsweek, replied, “but doesn’t leaving sad baby without its mother while she campaigns weaken that family values argument? Or will everyone be too …

One Wish from TNA
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
We at TNA are completely open with the fact that we want more women represented in our government, from any party. Our wish for the future is to have the following happen for all candidates running for public office:
Instead we have a bias from the media and our society. This bias tends to create a demeaning frenzy against a woman candidate. We at TNA hope that we can reach our wish in the very …

A “Feminist” on Wall Street
Today marks the one year anniversary of the death of my dearly departed friend Cammy Fulton. In honor of Cammy, I wanted to share this special memory about this special woman. She lived and breathed the TNA credo each and every day!
In Memory of Cameron Ellen Fulton
We all have heroines in our life. We don’t need to look any further than our day to day lives to find them. We don’t have to be Superwoman or Wonder Woman to qualify as a heroine. Being right down here …

ACTION ALERT: Mel Gibson Must Make Amends!
This isn’t the first time that Mel Gibson has been in the news for behaving badly. But no matter how much bad press Mel got last time, it’s nothing compared to what he deserves now.
Tapes have been released featuring Mel Gibson verbally abusing and threatening Oksana Grigorieva (ex-girlfriend and mother of his infant daughter) with physical and sexual violence, in the most reprehensibly sexist terms. The tape also includes a tacit admission of previous physical abuse and a death threat.
Rumors abound that this incident will end Mel Gibson’s career. But …
