Sarah Palin’s Actions Speak for Me

Aug 18, 2010 | 86 Comments

As a nonpartisan gender parity enthusiast who believes our country is sorely in need of capitalizing on the talents and contributions of the other half of its population, I have been very encouraged and excited by Sarah Palin’s Mama Grizzly effort to get more Republican women elected. I’ve been wishing that Democrats had someone like her who was willing to use their power and influence to elect more women in their party. I’ve been hoping that someone or some group would emerge soon, even in time for the midterm elections, …

Women Governors 2010 Update

Aug 12, 2010 | 2 Comments

For those who have been watching the women governors’ races, we lost two devastatingly close races Tuesday night. Republican Karen Handel of Georgia and Democrat Margaret Anderson Kelliher of Minnesota, both their party’s moderates and both with the best chance to win in the general election, lost their races by razor, razor thin margins. Handel’s loss was less than 4/10 of a percent, fewer than 2500 votes. Kelliher’s loss was less than 1500 votes. Both women conceded Wednesday at around noon. Now Georgia and Minnesota will have to wait at …

New Milestone for Women at US Intelligence Agency

Aug 10, 2010 | 3 Comments

Yesterday marked a new point in US intelligence history.  Letitia A. Long was  promoted to director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA); the first woman to head any US intelligence agency.
At a ceremony at the agency’s new facility site at Fort Belvoir’s North Area in Springfield, Virginia, Long was quoted as saying,
I am excited by the opportunity to continue to serve our nation not only alongside NGA’s outstanding and dedicated professionals but also with our partners and colleagues that span the U.S. Intelligence Community, the international community, academia and industry.

Maligning Media: Michelle Obama & Marie Antoinette Edition

Aug 7, 2010 | 30 Comments

I was very surprised earlier this week to see the New York Daily News headline about Michelle Obama blaring around the Internet. The article, written by Andrea Tantaros, was headlined: Material Girl Michelle Obama is a Modern-Day Marie Antoinette on a Glitzy Spanish Vacation. Of course it was an eye-catching approach, a mix of metaphors all around insulting and sexist, invoking both Madonna and Marie Antoinette, branding Mrs. Obama as both decadent and apathetic in the click of a few keyboard keys. Ms. Tantaros deft verbal skills, however, betray her …

2010 The Year of the Woman for Governors?

Aug 4, 2010 | 5 Comments

There’s been so much press recently about women in politics. “2010 is the year of the woman“. Is this really true?
OK Governor General Election Opponents
I think governors races are a good indicator because it tells us what is happening in all 50 states. Which ones trust a woman to head their state? I have a particular interest in the governors races because many Presidents and Vice Presidents come from Governors’ mansions. I’m wanting a woman in the White House, and I’m sure as heck not wanting to wait 25 …

The Power of Palin

Aug 3, 2010 | 57 Comments

The following article is cross-posted from TheLiberalOC.com with the permission of the author. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
When Sarah Palin was introduced as McCain’s running mate less than 24 hours after Barack Obama accepted the nomination, this staunch Obama supporter (who took lots of grief for not joining the 18 million women who supported Hillary) said out loud to my TV, “Oh shit.”
Almost two years later, the phrase still applies.
So what is it about her …

Is the GOP Becoming the Party of and for Women?

Aug 2, 2010 | 10 Comments

The following op-ed by The New Agenda’s Amy Siskind is featured at The Huffington Post.
Why did President Obama choose to appear on The View?  The answer is simple.  The View’s audience is 79% female and Obama has a women problem. Obama’s approval among women voters has plunged from 59% to 45% during his term in office. Here’s a shocker:  just one-third of white women approve of the President.
In fairness to President Obama, his policies and lackidasical focus on women’s issues only partially explain this nosedive with …

TNA Racing Form: 8 Races to Watch

Jul 17, 2010 | 9 Comments

Sweltering heat rocks the nation. Record highs are reported. Humidity hangs in the air, making a mockery of our evolution from gills. The dog days of summer are here and everything is slowing down, and even the media prepares to take a break in the coming weeks. Not here at TNA! We’ve got our eyes on the prize and the prize is more women in office. Now that primary season is over, it’s a good time to check the stats on some of the races involving female candidates. We consulted …

One Wish from TNA

Jul 16, 2010 | 17 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
We at TNA are completely open with the fact that we want more women represented in our government, from any party.  Our wish for the future is to have the following happen for all candidates running for public office:

Instead we have a bias from the media and our society.  This bias tends to create a demeaning frenzy against a woman candidate.  We at TNA hope that we can reach our wish in the very …

“Breasts” – a Weapon to Diminish Women in Politics

Jun 26, 2010 | 10 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Headlights, tah tahs, bosoms, boobies, a nice rack, guzungahs, knockers, titties, mammaries, the twins, etc.  You know the terms, you have heard them before.
Talking about a woman’s breasts just as an aside doesn’t normally come up in civilized conversation.  I don’t hear the topic of a woman’s knockers coming up in an engineering meeting or a discussion about university curriculum.  If the topic does tend to be brought out in the open it is …
