Sarah Palin’s Actions Speak for Me
As a nonpartisan gender parity enthusiast who believes our country is sorely in need of capitalizing on the talents and contributions of the other half of its population, I have been very encouraged and excited by Sarah Palin’s Mama Grizzly effort to get more Republican women elected. I’ve been wishing that Democrats had someone like her who was willing to use their power and influence to elect more women in their party. I’ve been hoping that someone or some group would emerge soon, even in time for the midterm elections, …

Ever heard of Joanna I. Queen of Naples. Jerusalem and Sicily?
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
I am giving the book “the Lady Queen” by Nancy Goldstone the forth time for a birthday gift. It occurred to me, that the reading on a real queen in the 14th century should paint a good contrast to recent press on the queen-like life of our first lady.
Here an excerpt from the book cover: “Amid intrigue, betrayal, and conspiracy, Joanna I of Sicily became the only female monarch of her day to rule …

Women Governors 2010 Update
For those who have been watching the women governors’ races, we lost two devastatingly close races Tuesday night. Republican Karen Handel of Georgia and Democrat Margaret Anderson Kelliher of Minnesota, both their party’s moderates and both with the best chance to win in the general election, lost their races by razor, razor thin margins. Handel’s loss was less than 4/10 of a percent, fewer than 2500 votes. Kelliher’s loss was less than 1500 votes. Both women conceded Wednesday at around noon. Now Georgia and Minnesota will have to wait at …

New Milestone for Women at US Intelligence Agency
Yesterday marked a new point in US intelligence history. Letitia A. Long was promoted to director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA); the first woman to head any US intelligence agency.
At a ceremony at the agency’s new facility site at Fort Belvoir’s North Area in Springfield, Virginia, Long was quoted as saying,
I am excited by the opportunity to continue to serve our nation not only alongside NGA’s outstanding and dedicated professionals but also with our partners and colleagues that span the U.S. Intelligence Community, the international community, academia and industry.

More Women Leaders – Time For A Different Approach
The following article is cross-posted from Unwritten Rules with permission of the author. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
First published in The Glass Hammer July 7, 2010
One definition of insanity is to do the same thing again and again and expect a different result.
If we want more women in senior leadership positions we need to take a different approach. The current one isn’t working.
We’ve repeatedly called on Board Directors and C-suite executives to act on the strong business case …

TNA speaks out for Romers in POLITCO
In an article titled Romer disputes friction at W.H., The New Agenda’s Amy Siskind had this to say about the unexpected resignation of Council of Economic Advisers Chairwoman Christina Romer:
Amy Siskind, president and co-founder of The New Agenda, an organization working to advance women in leadership roles, said Romer’s departure speaks to a “boys’ club” vibe within the White House. Siskind pointed out that Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner had initially been hesitant to endorse Elizabeth Warren to head the new Consumer Protection Bureau, and …

CHRISTINA ROMER RESIGNS: The Obama Boys’ Club — Does the White House Economic Team Have a Woman Problem?
The following op-ed by The New Agenda’s Amy Siskind was originally featured on the front page of The Huffington Post on July 20, 2010. The piece was featured again today with Christina Romer’s sudden resignation.
When FDR devised the policies which led our country out of the Great Depression, he had a secret weapon – his wife, Eleanor. Regrettably, as we struggle our way out of the worse economic crisis since then, Treasury Secretary Geithner is attempting to silence one of the few female voices in leading us out: Elizabeth …

2010 The Year of the Woman for Governors?
There’s been so much press recently about women in politics. “2010 is the year of the woman“. Is this really true?
OK Governor General Election Opponents
I think governors races are a good indicator because it tells us what is happening in all 50 states. Which ones trust a woman to head their state? I have a particular interest in the governors races because many Presidents and Vice Presidents come from Governors’ mansions. I’m wanting a woman in the White House, and I’m sure as heck not wanting to wait 25 …

The Power of Palin
The following article is cross-posted from TheLiberalOC.com with the permission of the author. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
When Sarah Palin was introduced as McCain’s running mate less than 24 hours after Barack Obama accepted the nomination, this staunch Obama supporter (who took lots of grief for not joining the 18 million women who supported Hillary) said out loud to my TV, “Oh shit.”
Almost two years later, the phrase still applies.
So what is it about her …

Is the GOP Becoming the Party of and for Women?
The following op-ed by The New Agenda’s Amy Siskind is featured at The Huffington Post.
Why did President Obama choose to appear on The View? The answer is simple. The View’s audience is 79% female and Obama has a women problem. Obama’s approval among women voters has plunged from 59% to 45% during his term in office. Here’s a shocker: just one-third of white women approve of the President.
In fairness to President Obama, his policies and lackidasical focus on women’s issues only partially explain this nosedive with …
