Do you know if any of the local news stations and papers have been contacted about this event—like KPIX(CBS), KGO (ABC), KNTV (NBC)? While Patty Fisher of the San Jose Mercury News wrote a thoughtful piece about the treatment of girls in this society, the SF Chronicle seemed to be laying the ground work for the “she asked for it defense.” The Chronicle focused on drinking (according to witnesses) and the fact the young woman seemed to eager to please the “bad boys” (according to an unnamed counselor).

I trust that not only this situation will be addressed but the fact that women are routinely abused in this country, and tolerance for this sad fact is a disease. I love it when you complain about how women get the short end of the stick in this country, someone, ususally male, will say “Well, how would you like to be a woman in Saudia Arabia?” Like the US is female nirvana because only 25% women are sexually assaulted, and not all women are beaten, and we get 81% of what men with comparable educations and positions get. What are we expecting? To be considered human?

I love how “they were drinking” is an automatic blame magnet for HER, but it seems to make blame just wash off THEM. “It’s not their fault, they were drunk and didn’t know what they were doing!”

Contrast that with, “She was drunk!” as if she shares some of the blame that way.

I also love the way the same men who are so quick to blame her for agreeing to go off with that one classmate who asked her over are the same guys who scream MANHATER! and I’M NOT LIKE THAT! if they ask a woman if they can buy her a drink and she refuses out of fear of being raped.

Don’t want to go up to his apartment? You’re a MANHATER! He’s not a rapist! He’s a NICE GUY!

Did go up to his apartment and got raped? Hey, you went up to his place! What did you think would happen!

Let me know when the mathematicians work their way through that little puzzle, wontcha?

No problem – we will post it on our home page. Ended up lasting for 40 minutes – lots of callers.

We’d love to have a blog piece about what happened at the rally if you want to report on it or send in photos.

Awesome, Amy. It must have been a great show. You can check my blog for updates and my own personal video. We got lots of TV and print as well as a great reception from the people in the city. Here are some links to the TV stations. If you don’t see the videos right away just enter “richmond rally” in the search box.
