Palin’s Re-entry Motivates Other Women to Run…

Nov 30, 2009 | 5 Comments

A major premise of The New Agenda is that women in leadership roles – in any venue – would serve as role models and push other women to have the courage to step up themselves.
Patricia Sullivan
Whether Sarah Palin decided to run for political office or not, her re-entry into public life is causing a stir. One of the most positive bi-products of Palin’s re-entry is that women are reportedly motivated by Palin to run for office themselves.
FOX is reporting – in Florida:
Patricia Sullivan, a mother of four who is running …

TNA’s Holiday Gift Ideas – Playmobil

Nov 29, 2009 | No Comment

There’s more to life for little girls than pink princesses, baby dolls and toy kitchen sets. But sometimes it’s hard to know this judging from the plethora of gender specific toys out there. Sure many girls like baby dolls (as do most of the little boys in my daughter’s playgroup). But girls are too multidimensional to be confined to the roles of princesses and homemakers and it’s nice to see this reflected in the Playmobil series of toy figurines.
Playmobil does offers the standard princess and mom-at-home-doing-housework toy sets. But they …

Sexism Stoplight: The Beauty Curse

Nov 28, 2009 | 20 Comments

Dear TNA,
I have two issues that I would like some help resolving, both of them have to do with how I look.  I work for a government contractor as a project manager and I am one of the only women working in my department.  I have been told by my friends that I am attractive.  “Cute” is a term that is used often to describe my looks and my personality.  I always dress professionally at work, be it wearing pant suits or skirts with heels.
My first issue has to do …

Say it Sista…

Nov 25, 2009 | 15 Comments

Thanks to Heather for forwarding me a piece from American Thinker titled The Wilding of Sarah Palin.
Although the author, a “recovering liberal” in Berkeley targeted the piece on the mistreatment of Sarah Palin, the piece truly could be about almost any female politician that gains power and rises towards that highest glass ceiling.
Robin of Berkeley (the author) awakened to the sexism inherent in the DNC long before I did. For me, it took the 2008 presidential primary and the DNC’s blatant sexism towards Hillary Clinton – both in action …

Glenn Beck Associates Landrieu’s Financial Negotiations With Prostitution

Nov 24, 2009 | 29 Comments

I would just like some clarification from all of the pundits on their use of the term hooker or ho?  It seems that when a woman is the negotiator of a financial deal in the Senate or the House that they find it convenient to label her as some type of prostitute.  I don’t hear that kind of language in regard to men?  I don’t care if you agree with the negotiation process or not; or if you agree with the politician accepting a financial deal in order to vote …

What Everyone Should Know About Nellie Bly

Nov 22, 2009 | 8 Comments

What Everyone Should Know is a bi-weekly column on women’s history.
Elizabeth Jane Cochran, a.k.a Nellie Bly (1864-1922)
My interest in women’s history was sparked at a young age by the story of one woman: Nellie Bly. I was eleven years old when I found her story in the children’s literature section of my local library. I had been browsing through the collection of choose-your-own-ending books (to which I was addicted) when I stumbled across a slim volume that had been mis-shelved. A smart-looking woman graced the cover wearing a Victorian …
