by The New Agenda
|The New Agenda has been working with NOW NY and ERLC to reach out to women’s groups and political leaders to join in demanding that Monserrate resign immediately.
Here’s an updated list of women’s organizations that have issued statements or will be shortly:
NOW-New York State
The New Agenda
Eleanor Roosevelt Legacy Committee (ERLC)
NARAL
Stop Family Violence.org
National Women’s Political Caucus
And here’s the political leaders who have demanded his resignation:
NYS Assemblywoman Patricia Eddington
NYS Assemblywoman Ginny Fields
NYS Assemblywoman Amy Paulin
NY City Council members Annabel Palma and
NY City Council member Melissa Mark-Viverito
NYS Senator Liz Krueger
NYS Senator Brian X. Foley
NYS Senator Betty Little
NYS Senator Cathy Young
NYS Senator Dave Valesky
NYS Senator Neil Breslin
NYS Senator Darrel Aubertine
United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand
United States Senator Charles Schumer
On Tuesday, the NY Senate formed a committee to review the Monserrate situation. The committee will have 5 Democrats and 4 Republicans. The Democrats have named their 5:
Sen. Eric Schneiderman, the committee chairman, said the members would move quickly. Other members are Sens. Ruth Hassell-Thompson of the Bronx, Diane Savino of Staten Island, Toby Ann Stavisky of Queens and Andrea Stewart-Cousins of Yonkers.
We encourage our members to reach out to these state senators and encourage them to force Monserrate to resign immediately.
NYS Senator Ruben Diaz who has been speaking out for Monserrate is also playing the race card:
“They’re white, that means that they’re racist. That means that they never did it for a white guy. They never did it for Sabini. They never did it so why do it now,” the Democratic lawmaker from the Bronx said, referring to former state Sen. John Sabini, who faced a misdemeanor drunken driving charge in 2007.
Flying in the face of that contention, yesterday, two latinas spoke out to say Monserrate must go!
