The New Agenda is responding to the Hollywood types who think it okay to rape a 13 year-old girl and have organized a petition called “Free Roman Polanski” citing:
The arrest of Roman Polanski in a neutral country, where he assumed he could travel without hindrance, undermines this tradition: it opens the way for actions of which no-one can know the effects.
Know the effects?  You mean the effects of admitting to having drugged and raped a 13 year-old girl and getting away with it?  Can we have a bit of perspective …

When is it acceptable to rape a child? When she’s almost at the age of consent? When she has a bad mother? When you’re an award-winning director?
The arrest this week of Roman Polanski by Swiss police generated an avalanche of support for the convicted sex offender. Among the arguments of prosecution corruption, time served and Polanski’s difficult youth, we found the apologists who can always find a way to blame …

I think it is really important that women constantly examine their assumptions, particularly in trying to build a New Feminism. We need to know if the assumptions we started out with are still valid, if, in fact, they were valid at the time, and whether they are still relevant. The assumption I would like to start with is the assumption that if women gain more and more power and …

In 2010  we will have a unique opportunity to vote for many women candidates, ultra-liberal and  right wing- conservative, Democrat and Republican.  I will vote for women this year irrespective of agenda and issues in order to finally achieve parity in office.
As many of you here are aware from my writings at TNA and Huff Po, I am a conservative white male, founder of Chippendales etc. I was involved in the woman’s movement from …

My friend and mentor, Henry, talked me into joining the local feminist group after the campaign he and I were working on was over.  I finally went to a meeting and was surprised at the participation.  The guest was the president of the state organization and she was a dynamic and charismatic speaker and I felt motivated and enjoyed myself, so I continued to participate.  I had attended the meetings regularly for about five months when Henry told me the election of officers was at the next meeting and was …

As the working mother of three children, all three of whom were breastfed, I know the problems breastfeeding mothers face in the workplace. I can recall my coworkers going off to their smoking breaks (no offense to smokers, but I think you’ll agree it’s not a habit that improves children’s health) while I was expected to pump breast milk in a dirty bathroom stall. Since I had no official …

At the beginning of the semester, I went to speak with my advisor in the history department. Classes were not yet in the full swing, so we chatted about books and authors. I learned something very surprising about two authors whose pennames were Andre Norton and James Tiptree Jr. I learned that they were women.
I have always heard of Andre Norton; this was the first time I heard of James Tiptree Jr. …
