Andy Griffith had a wonderful way of allowing the character of Sheriff Andy Taylor to look foolish in order to teach  America lessons.  In this case, the lessons were of compassion, humanity, and equality.  Sadly, in the wake of Governor Palin’s resignation, it’s clear that those lessons are as relevant today as they were 50 years ago.

In the original show (episode 10 of season one, “Ellie for Council,” in reruns on TVLand), Andy redeems himself.  When he hears Opie bashing women, and realizes that the boy is just parroting his father, Andy becomes ashamed of himself.  I hope America today will have the courage to be as self-reflective and wise.

Wow Judy – this brought tears to my eyes – we’ve come a long way? Maybe not so much!

OMG!! This needs to go viral fast! This is such a good example. I truly wish Hillary would speak out in defense of Palin (not necessarily her politics but her person and family). I am getting really tired of hearing Huckabee and others compare their experiences to Palin’s. No one, not even Hillary, has been thru what Palin and her family have been thru. Hillary was certainly a close second but the far left has gone all out against Palin and the elite right too.

This video clip needs to be sent to everyone you know!

    ha ha, you scooped DailyPUMA.

I had a request into a youtube video site that had this Andy Griffith show but would not allow it to be shared outside of their own channel, so I could not post it on DailyPUMA.

There is one straight five minute section near the end of this episode that works really well as one straight take.

The “Lamb leg to the mouth” as a last resort Ha..ha..ha.. by even Andy. Well, sadly some of the violence against women comments we hear in tongue & cheek today; sound very much the same.

Great video of Ellie’s campaign! Yes, ‘hit her with a lamb leg to the mouth’ — violence against girls and women as fashionable in our macho society as burqas in Islam….
Watching these old sitcoms must give us paus and wonder just how far we’ve come on that long lonely road to full equality where we will be treated with the same absistence from blatantly displayed sexism as racism in all its ugly manifestations.
Don Imus got justly fired for his racist comments. The extreme media misogynist fratboys Letterman, Matthews and Olberman are still thriving. It’ll be a measure of our progress when these jerks lose their jobs….because of Sexism! Till then, the burqa will be staying on but the culturally-drugged young girls won’t even take notice….

yes, I saw this entire episode and it’s all too sadly relevant today.
i’m glad mSakei mentioned the lamb leg to the face that the men laughed about. In the episode, the mother-in-law had to go to the dentist to fix the teeth that were knocked out.

Shocking? Any more shocking than Gawker’s latest? A picture of Sarah Palin aiming a gun at her own head. Violence against women still tickles the boys’ funny bones.

We now live in a country where an Inspector General (Gerald Walpin) can be fired by our president Obama because he was looking into Obama’s friend-Mayor Kevin Johnsons misuse of thousands of tax payer dollars,
A country where the laws of a primary election are made up as you go to suit the will of -not the people but the DNC and their new messiah.
A country where a exceptional public servant with a 90% approval rating who did more good for her state in a year and a half than most governors can do in 8 years, can be driven to near bankruptcy via 15 bogus ethics suits against her coupled with a Shar-iah like responce from bigoted men and self loathing women who are addicted to hating Palin.
A country where the party that was once for the people has become a disgusting cult for elitist, hip-haters and Wall Street Oligarchs.
This is no longer a democracy. This is an Obamanation.

With Palin’s resignation as Governor of Alaska, the feeding frenzy is on of news organizations clamoring to be the first to announce all the details. After all, if one quits their job they either couldn’t handle the pressure or were up to no good, right?
