We had been warned by our friend Marcia Pappas, President of NOW NY, to expect to be harrased by Monserrate’s representatives.

You were right Marcia, and it did not take long!

The phone number listed on our press release has received several calls from various telephone numbers from a man by the name of Davidson Goldin.   Davidson works for Dolce Goldin, which describes itself as a “Reputation Management” firm.  Media reports say that Monserrate is paying the firm $15,000 to tidy his current and past reports of violence. Davidson called last night and again today.  When asked to detail his complaints in writing he noted that the press release described “disputed allegations” as actual facts.  This all seems quite heavy-handed and aggressive for an elected public servant accused of violently attacking a woman.  There appears to be much dispute over the surveillance video, which is reported to show the frightened victim and an enraged Monserrate.  Why not release it to help “manage” Monserrate’s reputation?

Marcia tells us that Davidson quite proactively pursued her as well.   In addition to contact from Davidson, Marcia also received a “cease and desist” letter to attempt to get her to cancel the January 31st press conference. Marcia tells us that she wisely shared the cease and desist letter with the press.

Sorry Davidson. The New Agenda is here to speak for the women of this country. We join NOW NY in demanding that Monserrate step down immediately.

We ask all our members to follow through on the Action Alert sent out yesterday and take action!

Have followed through on all the actions.

If you feel you’re being harrassed, consult your attorney.

    Ugh.

The last item on this link: http://www.yournabe.com/articl.....ive152.txt

is apparently from a police report after his arrest for running over a tow-truck driver’s leg. It’s dated Sept. 13, 2001

More attempts at intimidation, power plays, aggression—as if any of this, including ‘reputation management,’ changes one iota the violence committed by Monserrate . . . Men who don’t commit violence and manage their anger don’t need ‘reputation management.’.

Sounds like it may be time for another press release exposing the aggressive ‘reputation management’ tactics employed by Monserrate — on more than one occasion (TNA and NY NOW).

This shows the great job that TNA and NOW Are doing! Getting under Monserrate’s skin? I count that as a success.

Actually ,to be clear, the cease and desist letter came from an attorney that Monserrates girlfriend hired. As I said before in my press statement, it is typical for these types of people to hide behind the skirts of the women the allegedly abuse. No surprise here. TNA, stay strong. When we women speak the truth, it is not uncommon for patriarchy to try to silence us.

Marcia – And I would add that, sadly, it is typical for women trapped in “battered woman syndrome” to have such blinders on that they readily welcome and invite those to hide behind their skirts. It’s all part of the gigantic tragedy of women who get involved in abusive relationships. It’s part of what makes it such an intractable problem to “fix” and why most women don’t leave or they leave, only to return or find another abusive relationship. That is if they live to do so. The most dangerous time for women in these relationships is just as they are about to leave. That is when the stakes are highest and the risk of being killed peaks.
